Prof. Han-Yong Jeon
Inha University
Professor Emeritus Han-Yong Jeon is a geosynthetics/technical organic materials researcher of Inha University, Incheon, South Korea. Since 1998, he is the director of Geosynthetics Institute Korea Directory and has worked in International Geosynthetics Society as Council member (2008~2012) and the 6th president of Korean Geosynthetics Society (2011~2013) and the 32nd President of Korean Fiber Society (2014~2015). He has published more than 1,124 proceedings in the domestic and international conferences and published 228 papers including “A Study on the Radiation Shielding and Absorption Effects of Nonwoven Composites by Monte-Carlo Simulation Analysis”, applied sciences, 12, 3570, 2022 in domestic & international journals. He wrote 30 Korean and English books including 'Review of Sustainable Geosynthetics Development Trend with Environmental Adaptive and Eco-Environmental Performances Point of View’, Geopolymers and Other Geosynthetics, ISBN 978-1-78985-176-2, IntechOpen, 2020. He has awards of Marquis Who'sWho - Science and Engineering in 2003~2017 and Top 100 Scientists in the World: 2005/2011 of IBC (International Biographical Centre, UK). Also, he got the 33rd Academy Award of Korean Fiber Society in 2006 and “Excellent Paper Award of 2012” by The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies. Besides this, he got the 33rd Academy Award (The Korean Fiber Society), 2006 and the Best Publication Award (Korea Association of Technical Textile Industry), 2017 and the 41st Prize of Jung-Hun Textile Industry (Academy Award), 2020.
Dr. George R. Koerner
Director of the Geosynthetic Institute
Dr. George R. Koerner is director of the geosynthetic institute. He is in charge of laboratory accreditation, field certification and continuing education at the institute. He also manages several research projects and has published over 200 technical papers in his 35 years association with polymers used in construction. Dr. Koerner’s Ph.D. is from Drexel University in geotechnical engineering. He is a registered professional engineer and a certified quality auditor. George has received many awards over the years. The most notable being IFAI’s Environmental Technologies Award of excellence 1995, ASCE’s DVGI Geotechnical Engineer of the year in 2004, The title of ASTM Fellow in 2013, GMA’s First Koerner Lecturer in 2017 and the title of ASCE Fellow in 2020.
Prof. Nelson N.S. CHOU
National Taiwan University
Professor Nelson N.S. Chou has more than 40 years of practical experience in Civil Engineering, including Geotechnical, Geosynthetic, Highway, and Sustainable/Green Engineering. He graduated from National Cheng-Kung University, Taiwan, with a BSCE degree and from the University Of Colorado with a Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical/Geosynthetic Engineering. Professor Chou accumulated practical and teaching/research experiences in the USA, Taiwan, and China. He is the past president of the Taiwan Geosynthetics Society and the Chief Editor of the design manual and specification of Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) structures in Taiwan. He is the former president of sinotech Engineering Consultants, Inc., A leading consulting firm in Taiwan with over 1,500 engineers and branch offices in Fuzhou & Macao, China, and Jakarta, Indonesia. Besides consulting practices, he unselfishly shares his broad experiences with students at National Taiwan University and National Central University in Taiwan as adjunct professor and Southwest Jiaotong University and Northwest University in China as Visiting Professor. He published more than 100 technical papers, mainly in case histories of Geotechnical Engineering, GRS Wall, and Sustainable Civil Engineering. Besides, he owns six patents (related to the MSE wall) in Taiwan and USA. Dr. Chou received numerous awards, including the 2020 Fumio Tatsuoka Award from the Journal Of Transportation Infrastructure Geotechnology in the USA and the Outstanding Geotechnical Engineer Award from the Taiwan Geotechnical Society. Recently, he was invited to give keynote lectures at GeoAsia 7 (2022 In Taipei) and at INA IGS (2021 In Jakarta). He is a Fellow of the American Society Of Civil Engineers and the Chinese Institute Of Civil & Hydraulic Engineering.
Assoc. Prof. Haoliang Wu
Sun Yat-sen University
Dr. Wu currently serves as an associate professor at the School of Civil Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Jilin University and earned his doctoral degree through a joint program between Southeast University and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). He has also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
He has published papers in authoritative journals such as "Cement and Concrete Composites," "Science of The Total Environment," "Journal of Cleaner Production," and "Journal of Geotechnical Engineering." He has authored more than 40 SCI-indexed papers (including 1 highly cited ESI paper) and over 10 EI-indexed papers. Additionally, he holds more than 20 patents both domestically and internationally. Dr. Wu also serves as a guest editor/young editorial board member for several international journals, including "Buildings," and acts as a reviewer for more than 20 well-known academic journals.
Dr. Wu's research areas include but not limited to: 1) Contaminated land remediation and retardation by magnesium-based materials barriers; 2) Straining-hardening and self-healing behavior of cementitious composites; 3) Life cycle assessment and costing of cementitious composites in geotechnical engineering; 4) Reuse and recycle of low carbon materials for treating contaminated soils and marine sludge.
Prof. Sabatino Cuomo
University of Salerno
Prof. Sabatino CUOMO is a professor and member of the board of directors of the department of Civil Engineering at the University of Salerno, Italy. He specializes in geogrid material reinforcement, regional slope stability, slope erosion, etc. To date, Prof. Sabatino Cuomo has more than 160 publications, he has participated in several international conferences and served as a keynote, and he is a professional reviewer for several journals. He has been involved in many international collaborative projects and has conducted collaborative research with several countries. He is also passionate about international teaching and has been a visiting professor at several schools and has given lectures in several countries. He is a member of the IGS technical committee on stabilization and a member of the board of directors of the Italian section of the IGS, among others.
Prof. Ping Xiang
Central South University
Dr. Xiang is a professor at Central South University, a doctoral supervisor, vice director, and an expert selected for Hunan Province's introduction of overseas high-level talent program. He completed his doctoral degree at the City University of Hong Kong in 2012 and served as a postdoctoral researcher and associate researcher at the City University of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2017.
He has been the principal investigator for a National Natural Science Foundation of China project, and he has published over 120 research papers, including more than 100 SCI-indexed papers, several of which are highly cited (ESI), and multiple top-tier SCI papers. Dr. Xiang has been granted three patents and holds three software copyrights.
As a representative of outstanding teachers at Central South University, he received a warm welcome from the Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Dr. Xiang has also been invited to visit several international universities, including Swansea University and the University of Strathclyde in the UK, Kangwon National University in South Korea, and Dartmouth College.
Dr. Xiang's research interests encompass the dynamics of high-speed railway track-bridge systems, the safety of high-speed railway bridges under seismic actions, finite element methods in computational mechanics, meshless methods in computational mechanics, prefabricated construction, composite structures, computational micro-nanomechanics, and biomechanics.
